Jodi Proznick:
Three time Juno-nominated bassist, composer, producer and educator Jodi Proznick has earned a reputation as one of Canada’s finest jazz artists. She has won numerous National Jazz Awards, including Bassist of the Year in ’08 and ’09. Her group, the Jodi Proznick Quartet, was awarded the Acoustic Group of the Year and Album of the Year in ‘08 and the Galaxie Rising Star at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival in ‘04. Most recently, Jodi was awarded the Jazz Artist of the Year at the Western Canadian Music Awards and the Platinum Jubilee Art and Music Award from the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia.
Mohamed Assani Trio:
The Mohamed Assani Trio pushes the boundaries of music-making while deeply honoring the rich traditions of South Asia. Led by Mohamed Assani, a two-time Western Canadian Music Award nominee for Instrumental Music, the trio delivers a genre-defying sound that blends diverse musical landscapes with authenticity and emotional depth. Assani, a dynamic performer and composer, has captivated audiences worldwide through collaborations with orchestras, string quartets, hip-hop artists, DJs, world music ensembles, jazz musicians, and as a soloist. His unique training in both Indian/Pakistani and Western music allows him to create a truly cross-cultural experience.
Joining Assani are the exceptional percussionists Curtis Andrews (drum kit & mridangam) Jodi Proznic (bass) and Gurdit Singh (tabla). Together, the quartet crafts a performance that is both virtuosic and deeply expressive, taking audiences on a captivating musical journey. Their seamless communication and powerful stage presence ensure a memorable experience each time they perform.
“The way Mohamed Assani has manipulated, caressed and amalgamated so many different styles under the watchful rule of his sitar playing is nothing short of mesmeric.” – Vinyl Chapters
