The jazz super-group known as the Ostara Project is led by Jodi Proznick and Amanda Tosoff, both acclaimed musicians, and celebrates the strength and ingenuity of Canadian women in jazz. The members of the Ostara collective are all highly skilled musicians, composers, and bandleaders who reflect Canada’s diverse musical landscape in terms of geography, culture, and creativity. The group’s focus is on presenting original compositions by its members, creating an exciting and varied repertoire that is performed with skill and nuance. The ensemble’s membership is fluid to suit the needs of its many projects, but what remains constant is the heart, creativity, and artistry that defines the Ostara Project.
The Ostara Project enjoyed sold-out shows during a November 2022 tour of Western Canada. Their self-titled debut album, released in the same month, has been nominated for a JUNO award in the Vocal Jazz Album of the Year category. The group is set to embark on a tour of ten major jazz festivals across Canada in the summer of 2023.
In an industry where women have long been underrepresented, the Ostara Project is a shining example of resilience, community, and a deep passion for music. Like the Germanic goddess of spring for whom the group is named, the music of Ostara is a representation of creativity emerging
from darkness, reaching towards the light and growth, driven by hope.
