The jazz world lost a powerful voice in 2009. David "Fathead" Newman was a saxophone player who is most known for his years playing with the amazing Ray Charles, but I had the pleasure to play, tour and record with him during the last few years of his life.

He was a gentleman - kind hearted and so supportive on the bandstand. I miss him dearly.
